20 Weeks- Half Way There!

(Left Picture= profile of baby's head)

We had our 20 week ultrasound on Friday and it went great. . . in fact, both the doctor and the technician actually said the baby looked "beautiful and "perfect". Yes, they already told us the baby is "perfect"- what else would you expect from us?! :) During the ultrasound they took 45 minutes to thoroughly check everything from counting the fingers and toes (there are 10 of each!), to analyzing the brain, spinal cord, heart, and internal functions of the baby. It was amazing to see the detail they went to, to check everything.

Also, the technician was pushing down pretty hard on my stomach and at one point we could actually see the baby open it's fist and push back with an open hand! Amazing. Already some personality coming through. . . We left there feeling very good about the baby's development and excited to meet he/she!

Mendocino Getaway

We decided to take the weekend to getaway up the Northern California coast. So many great blessings in our life we figured we should take some time to celebrate them all. . .week 19 of the pregnancy and our last Valentine's Day with just the two of us in the family! We picked out a driving route North on Highway 1. It lead us from San Francisco to Mendocino, exploring all of the coastal towns in between, and landing at a Bed & Breakfast in the town of Mendocino. We were able to do a little hiking in on Saturday morning before all of the rains hit but most of all we enjoyed the time alone together as we celebrate the fast approaching arrival of the new addition to the family!

18 Weeks!

The belly is really starting to protrude now! Although, I am still getting the comments from people "You don't even look pregnant!", I promptly show them my belly and confirm that yes, indeed, there is a baby growing in there.

The news this week with the baby is that it is 5-5 1/2 inches long and weighs approx. 5 oz. (the size of a bell pepper). The baby's rapid growth period is beginning to slow down, but his or her facial features are starting to form. Our baby can now yawn, frown, smile, and make other facial expressions. Taste buds have developed, and our baby can sense bitter from sweet, and swallowing reflexes are now present. He or she may even start getting the hiccups! Because baby's eyes are still developing, they're very sensitive. If a light is shined onto my belly, our baby might flinch and try to cover his or her face. (Which we won't be testing!)

We have also begun work on the nursery. . . finalized the bedding and now working through the paint. Ah, the fun of paint- a billion different colors all in the same color spectrum. . . as you can see we are having fun with this part of the nursery too.
